What does health insurance cover and not cover?
Health insurance plans provide benefits for a variety of things. Every plan is different so you should find what works for you and not pay for things you don’t need. Choosing the best plan for you is what your insurance agent should excel at.
Do I really need health insurance? It's so expensive.
Health insurance, just as with most types of insurance, will save you from financial ruin to due to a medical reason. And in some cases, the insurance company will pay millions of dollars for your treatment where you’ll only be responsible for a small amount.
Does my new insurance plan cover my prescription?
Every insurance plan has different prescription benefits, another reason why a benefit advisor is your medical policy's best friend. Review your summary of benefits or call your agent to find out.
My company's health insurance option is too expensive for me and my family. What are my other options?
Depending on a few important factors, you will have options outside your employer. In these situations, scheduling a consultation with a benefits expert and agent is highly advised.
Can I go to my regular pharmacy to get my medication?
Not all pharmacies may be in your plan’s network. Your agent can help guide you. Further, it is wise to shop your medication costs and there are tools for that available too!
Will my health insurance options include those that help me save money if I'm healthy?
Some plans are approval-based and subject to a health “review.” Others are guaranteed to be issued regardless of any health conditions. It ultimately depends on your needs.
Can I go to my regular doctor for a checkup?
First you’ll want to confirm the doctor is in your plan’s network and you should be able to search within your online portal. You can also call your doctor’s office and ask! Also, your network type will play a factor in your freedom to choose your doctor.
Will my health insurance plan work the same if I am traveling far from my home address?
Some plans will work the same regardless of where you are and others will not. This is where the type of network (HMO, EPO, PPO) becomes very important to understand.
I'm having an emergency. Should I go straight to the hospital or no?
In a true emergency, get to the hospital as soon as possible and focus on the care you need. In some cases, urgent care will be just fine and a lot less expensive too. For non-emergencies, you may have an online doctor service as an extension of your benefits.
Are there any extra perks or benefits that come with my health insurance plan?
Different insurance companies will partner with other companies to incentivize the plan holder. Virtual visits may be added for example, or even other benefits that focus on ones well being and health.
